Mitzvah Day
On Mitzvah Day, 18 November 2012, the Jewish community leads the way in giving back. The mission is to reduce poverty, to help our environment and to bring a little joy where it is needed – through social action projects rather than fundraising.
Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue is an official partner of [Mitzvah Day 2012] and will be running a number of projects again this year. There is something for everyone to get involved in:
- MITZVAH DAY SHOPPING
11:00am-4:00pm - Broadwalk Centre, Edgware
Collection of food outside Sainsburys in The Broadwalk in Edgware for Watford New Hope Trust.
And of course don't forget to bring along all your donations for the Collectathon.
-
AJEX TEA
We invite anyone who attends the Ajex Parade to join us for Tea in the community centre upon their return. No need to book - but we will need volunteers to prepare and serve the tea please.
- SHUL LIBRARY

- CHANUKAH CARDS
Make cards for Camp Simcha - an activity for children and the Cheder.

- PACKATHON

- COLLECTATHON
9:30am-4:30pm
Please poke around in your attics and search through your wardrobes & drawers for the items listed below and then bring all your unwanted, good as new, bits & bobs to the community centre on Mitzvah Day. Things that are simply gathering dust in our homes could make a huge difference to the lives of others:
WINTER WARMERS
Hats, Scarves, Gloves, Coats, Jumpers, Blankets & Baby Clothes in aid of World Jewish Relief's 'Operation Winter Survival' for impoverished families in the former Soviet Union.
NEW STATIONERY
Please bring in new, unused stationary to send to Israel for Jewish Childs Day.
USED POSTAGE STAMPS
For Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. Last year the charity raised £11,000 from selling the stamps collected throughout the year.
FOOTBALL KITS
Used or New Football Kits for Maccabi to distribute either to WJR or One 2 One in Israel.
USED BIRTHDAY CARDS
To be used for recycling at Art and Craft classes at Princess Alexandra Jewish Care Home.
If there is any member of the community who would like to come to shul to help with any project but is unable to get there, please contact an organiser who will arrange a lift for you.
PLEASE DROP OFF ALL YOUR ITEMS ON
