Thought for the week
Tradition has it that Korach posed an interesting query to Moses: a home in which there are many holy books does it require a Mezuzah? A Mezuzah, after all, contains but two small paragraphs from the Torah, all covered by these sacred books! Moses responded that such a home still required a Mezuzah. But why is a Mezuzah necessary?
A Mezuzah is on the border that divides the home from the outside. As one leaves and enters the home, one notices the Mezuzah and even gives it a kiss of affection and recognition. This ostensibly small act has enormous consequences as it reminds the person that there is only one G-d, who wants us to follow the path of the Torah. Little acts often create the greatest impact.
Korach failed to see this crucial aspect of Mezuzah. Moses, being constantly attached to G-d, was privileged to recognise this fundamental truth.
