Thought for the week
The incident with the 12 spies, related in this week’s Sidrah, precipitated many disasters and exacted a terrible price. How exactly did this mission become compromised?
Moshe sent the spies with clear instructions; discover the best and easiest way to conquer the land. There was no doubt about eventual entry, as this had been promised by G-d. When the spies returned, however, they added to their report, by doubting whether this was achievable. This attitude was neither warranted nor expected from them. They could have reported that, logically, it was going to be difficult, but that they had confidence in the power of the Almighty. They had no right to make their own conclusions as to the viability of this conquest, since this was not part of their mission.
We, too, all have a mission in life. It is not our duty to question whether it is achievable; merely to figure out how best it is going to be accomplished.
