Quote of the week

Tzav – Command, Direct, Instruct. The name of this week's Sidrah shares its root with the word Mitzvah, which roughly translates as 'Commandment', acknowledging its Commander – G-d. Another suggestion for the word Tzav (and Mitzvah) is 'Connection'. Through the Mitzvah, one connects to the Divine.

While the simple translation (commandment) implies that an order has been given – discipline and authority, the other meaning (connection) is more soft and subtle. There is a desire and joy in the Mitzvah's fulfilment as it reinforces and strengthens the unique relationship between the human being and G-d. Either way, a Mitzvah is a promising and satisfying act!
